Welcome! We're glad to welcome such fine young minds to these hallowed halls of learning. We're sure you're curious as to how Hogwarts works and how your participate in the experience. Well, here's how:
1. Hogwarts Time vs. Student Time
"Hogwarts Time" is used to refer to Hogwarts' measurements of time. A year for Hogwarts lasts from the beginning of September to the middle of June. This is the school year. From the middle of June to the end of August is Summer Vacation, and during Summer Vacation, students are sent home.
"Student Time" refers to your own personal Year, and how quickly things go for the player. Student Years are determined by Unit Count:
0-60 Units: First Year
61-120 Units: 2nd Year
121-240 Units: 3rd Year
241-360 Units: 4th Year
481-550 Units: 5th Year
551-675 Units: 6th Year
676-777 Units: 7th Year
Units are given in accordance with grades on Assignments:
O = 5 Units
E = 4 Units
A = 3 Units
P/D/T= 0 Units
Only O(Outstanding), E(Exceeds Expectations), and A(Acceptable) are passing grades. P(Poor), D(Dreadful), and T(Terrible (or, more commonly, Troll)) are failing grades, and thus do not result in Units.
Now, due to the nature of Hogwarts, we ask that users please have a maximum of two student characters. This cuts down on confusion. We also ask that you keep track of your Units, because the Staff aren't going to for you.
2. Classes and Homework
The way Classes work are that every two-four weeks, a new lesson will be posted to the Classroom for that subject. At the end of each lesson will be some form of Assignment. Assignments may be written, or can be some form of practical application. Many Underclassmen Assignments are usually written, while Upperclassmen Assignments tend to be more practical application assignments. Assignments are offered as both a way of gaining units and a form of enriching your experience-- they are by no means necessary.
3. Quidditch
Quidditch Matches are held between two Houses. The teams will participate in a game thread, which is presided over by the Quidditch Referee (who also tends to be the Flying Instructor for First Year students). The Quidditch Referee will announce when a goal is scored, when the Golden Snitch appears, and when bludgers happen to strike a player. The game ends when a Seeker catches the Golden Snitch. Players are appointed to the team by the Head of their House every year.
4. Special Events
Hogwarts can be, and often is, unpredictable. As such, sometimes a new, exciting event will occur in Hogwarts that students may participate in. Participation can net all sorts of neat rewards, from House Points to new, cool stuff! When an event starts up, be sure to try and participate.
5. Advancing through Hogwarts and Graduation
While we have outlined here how many units it takes to be eligible for a student to advance to their next year, we realize that to require you to do assignments and stop using a character once they've gotten to a certain point is in bad taste. However, once you have gotten enough units AND no longer wish to play using that character, you may have them Graduate and free up one of your two character slots.
